Join my good friend and yoga teacher Kate for a morning of yoga and essential oils.
Essential oils have been used throughout yoga’s history, primarily in reference to yoga’s ayurvedic science. The benefits of essentials oils are vast including supporting your emotional needs, immune system, and physical health. Come and experience the benefits of pairing essential oils with your yoga practice.
A brief introduction of essential oils will be followed by a 75 minute meditative posture yoga class highlighting 6 different essential oils. Participants will be invited to experience selected essential oils aromatically, topically, and internally.
All participants will receive a Home Oil Practice bag with samples of selected oils distributed in class along with detailed information about how to use each oil at home. * Please bring a glass or stainless steel water bottle (optional).

I was humbled and honored when my student asked me to teach a class for her, her daughter, and some of her daughters friends. Her daughter has something called Supra Ventricular Tachycardia, which in laymen's terms is (at times) a very rapid heart beat. It is not considered to be life threatening.
Let me tell you something, when your baby is sick or hurt or dealing with any illness it threatens your sanity. You can believe that.
Her daughter is going in for a procedure that will (hopefully) fix the issue and there is some understandable nervousness around this.
My student asked me to teach a class to help her cope with her emotions around this procedure and to help her daughter as well.
I have to say that deciding to give your daughter a yoga class designed to help her find strength and peace and healing and an open heart is brilliant...I am not sure I would have thought of that for my own kids (and, as you know, I am a yoga teacher)
Earlier this year when my own child was diagnosed with an auto immune disease, I did not seek out a yoga teacher, I did not take her to my yoga classes. I did eventually begin to re-introduce yoga and meditation concepts to her but it took some time and some processing and I have still not convinced my darling teenager it is a good thing for her. Its a process...it will come.
As moms we don't always know what the 'right' thing is. And even if we do know we don't always do the 'right' thing. I can't say for sure but I think this is one of those times where this mom knew in her heart what the right thing was and she did it. Way to go yoga mama.
Our hearts are a powerful energy center. Love, compassion, gratitude, understanding, true knowing...these things are all cultivated in our heart centers. If we can get quiet and still what do our hearts tell us? How much can we learn from listening? How much LOVE can we cultivate just by listening?
Take 20 breaths right now and in those 20 breaths get very quiet and still and listen to your heart.

A few random musings on snow days .... and kid sick days. I do not ever hope for my children to be ill, nor do I ever hope for the roads to be impassable. However, theses things do happen from time to time and they do disrupt our schedules and our plans. (sometimes a lot, sometimes not)
But here is what I LOVE about the disruption of our schedules and plans. We slow down, we become more present to the needs of ourselves and of those around us, we laugh a little more because we are not thinking about the next thing on our to-do lists. It is no secret to you that I am a big fan of sloooooowing down. It is in this space we become more aware, and that awareness is our greatest teacher.
So enjoy your snow day, build a snowman, make a snow angel, go sledding, read a book, snuggle a child (furry or not!) OR simply do whatever feeds your soul.

I am about to share a secret with you... a deep, dark secret. My feet can get really nasty. Dry, icky, rough, cracked heels. It is not pretty. As a yoga teacher this is unacceptable. I am walking around you, stepping on your mat for an adjustment, stepping near your head. Doing this with nasty feet is not okay. It is my duty, part of my job description to have pretty feet. Pedicures are great, but expensive.
I tried to get my accountant to agree that pedicures were a tax- deductible expense....she said no....but I digress.
Who can afford that kind of time or money anyway? Not me. SO what's a hard working yogi/mom to do? Well, I am going to tell you. I am going to share with you my secret to soft, smooth feet. Soft as a baby's bottom one might say. This deals only with the feet themselves not the nails or nail polish. You are on your own there, I have always liked the Au Natural look myself :) (full disclosure, I got this off of the show 'The Doctors' a couple of years ago)
It's quick, very easy, inexpensive and it works!
Step One: Go to the acne isle of your local drugstore and buy Stridex medicated maximum strength acne pads. Generic is fine too as long as it has salicylic acid in it. Then go to the lotion isle and buy any kind of foot cream or lotion. I like Neutrogena Foot Cream.
Step Three: At night, before bed, wipe your feet with the medicated pads. One for each foot.
Step Four: Put on the foot lotion
Step Five: Put on socks
Step Six: You are done! Go to sleep!
I'll post a before and after shot in a week or so. It takes only a day or two to start seeing results. A week or two to look like you just had a spa pedicure.
You are welcome, OXOXO emilie
Just a yoga teacher. Doing my thing.
