I want to address the coronavirus and what I am doing at the studio to keep us safe. First of all, I do not think it is time to panic. But it is always a good time to plan and be prepared. I love a good plan!
Second, Yoga is excellent at increasing a healthy immune response. So keep up your practice!!
Here is a list of common sense, daily practices to keep us all healthier. (from the CDC because SCIENCE!)
~Wash your hands!! 30 seconds with soap and water is best. Hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol is second best.
~Clean your phone and frequently touched objects. I think alcohol wipes are good, but probably disinfectant wipes are okay too.
~ Avoid touching your face. Holy crap- do we touch our faces AWHOLEFREAKINGLOT. We do not even realize we are doing it.
~ Stay home if you are sick.
~ Cough into a disposable tissue.
Here is a list of things I will do at the studio for peace of mind:
~ I will disinfect the bathrooms after every class. As opposed to once a week.
~ I will offer the use of a tissue with an eye pillow during savasana. And I will wash the eye pillow covers weekly.
~Hand sanitizer- Assuming I can find some, I hear there is a shortage...I will place hand sanitizer bottles strategically around the studio.
Here are some other things you can do:
~ if you are worried about the studio mats and props, now might be a good time to purchase your own eye pillow, mat and blanket. It is not a bad idea to have your own anyway.
~ if you do not want to buy your own..bring a large towel from home to use in between you and the blankets or bolsters.
~spray down a borrowed studio mat before and after class.
As I said...I am a planner...planning is my thing. I want to remind you that while this is nothing to sneeze at (pun intended) I do not think panic is ever helpful.
Keep Calm...wash your hands....then do yoga!
